"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." - Edgar Degas
Yolande Strauss started making music at a young age and is skilled in both the Afrikaans and English music markets. She loves cabaret, but can also perform pop, rock, and jazz songs at corporate events. As a student, she was part of the student theater group ALABAMA STUDENTEGESELSKAP and toured South Africa, showcasing her talents as a soloist and stage performer.
In 1998 and 1999, she competed in the ATKV's Crescendo talent hunt for young Afrikaans singers and songwriters as part of the duo AMBROSIA (with the very talented songwriter Herman van der Walt). Their songs, "Kaalvoetkind" and "Pleister," (written by van der Walt) made it to the final round. She also came in second in Beeld's Vuurdoop for songwriters in 2000 with her own composistion "Misreën".
Throughout her career, Yolande has performed in various shows, including "Blouklip," "Doringdraad Blues Cafe," and "Moerkoffie." One personal highlight for her was being part of the cast of "Nagkantoor," written by PG du Plessis. She shared the stage with the likes of Christa Steyn, Jannie du Toit, Charlene Truter and Mathys Roets.
In 2011, she was chosen as one of 50 finalists in the Avon Voices Search in Paris, France. While in Cape Town, she worked as a pianist and backup vocalist for various artists and bands.
Now living in Centurion with her husband and two sons, Yolande was recently involved in the award-winning Afrikaans film "Die Pelsloper" as a composer and songwriter (2019). Her songs and background tracks can be heard in the film, which won international prizes for- amongst others- its music. In addition to her music career, she is also an aspiring videographer, photographer, and blogger.
